It's officially the 4th of July - Happy Independence Day!
I really love seeing these flags each year that line the streets of each neighborhood.
I have my dessert that I'm taking to our bar-b-que:
Easy mini-fruit pizzas. Cookie cups made from Pillsbury cookie dough pressed into a muffin tin, pre-made cream cheese dip, and cut up strawberries. I'm keeping it REAL simple this year (smile).

We have been on the go since last Thursday and kind of still are - just from home now, but art camp starts next week!
Our trip to MO started like this
Yup. Late check in for us. We joke that we run on "Trump-time" but the truth is, it would NOT be funny if we missed a flight due to our tardiness.
Our last call over Love Field intercom meant that instead of drinking our Starbucks coffee, we instead had this breakfast of champions...late champs ch umps.
Thank goodness we made it though because we hit the ground running (driving) to watch Madison, Adam's little sis, play softball, Remi, our nephew play t-ball, and visit with family that it had been too long since we'd last seen.
And Saturday, back to Kansas City for a day of softball games. I was a hot sweaty mess, but it was so fun getting to watch Madi on the field.
The weekend flew by, but celebrating Father's day with Tom, my father-in-law, was a really great feeling for Adam and I.
Before we knew it we were back in the air but this time, with Madison. She flew back with us to catch a softball camp at UT Austin. Henry was so happy to see us when we walked in the door, but was slightly confused when our suitcases stayed in the kitchen and then were loaded back in the car.
He sulked, but then was super happy when he realized he was coming with (smile). And so we were back on the road to Austin with Henry as co-pilot.
Henry enjoyed living the dream life in our pet-friendly hotel room...
...while we went back and forth to watch Madi scrimage on the field with girls from all over the United States. Pretty darn cool, I think.
And it was so very awesome and we were super proud when out of hundreds of girls, Madi's name was 1 out of 3 girls in her pod called out for an award. The Heart of Hustle award. Adam and I instantly became those "proud parents" whistling, clapping, and snapping photos while welling up with happy tears.
And seeing Adam so excited and happy to have his baby sis here in Texas, playing softball at a UT camp, and getting to spend time talking and hanging out, is truly so awesomely cool and makes my heart smile.
A busy weekend + week, but so wonderful and fun and worth every minute and mile.

Henry tried three times to get me up this morning. He seems happy to have someone still at home with him. I'm excited to have stayed in bed past 5:40 AM.
Glorious summer vacation is officially here.
So what are our plans for today?

Especially for today. Which is why I rolled out of bed, slid on my flippy flops, grabbed my computer and headed outside with Henry. He is enjoying playing with Butters the cat in the yard while I blog.
No worries, cat lovers (Rachel), Henry doesn't harm Butters. He just gets him riled up enough to chase him.
Ah, yes, this is what I have truly been looking forward to.

Two weekends ago, Adam and I had a weekend getaway to the Gaylord. Self pro-claimed home-bodies, yes. But we thought a weekend to a wonderful place would be fun and it was :)
This past weekend, we were home.
On Monday I got tickled when I looked at the past few weeks of photos from my iPhone. A weekend of relaxation followed by a weekend of full on house work.
Two weekends ago was St. Patrick's Day. We went shopping after an awesome workout at Golds Gym Dallas, ate gummy bears and Uncle Julios. I took a photo of a green gummy bear in honor of St. Patty's
About the same time of day this past weekend, I was working out, but Adam was working on our front steps...the rock has worn down and further down. Has been re-mortared and worn down again. And finally re-constructed again. Adam was embarrassed that they looked this bad and I took a photo, as the "steps" are mostly mortar now. But this is certainly our real. Real life.
2 Weekends ago we were walking around the beautiful grounds enjoying drinks by the pool and each others company.
This past weekend. We enjoyed that we were both at home, but I was busy hand washing my car, and after the front steps were finished Adam started working on the step in our laundry room. Of which is one step closer to a completely "finished" laundry room that we've been slowly working on since last summer...Have I ever blogged about the early morning I went in our laundry room to iron my pants for work and was greeted scared to death by a squirrel?! A whole other blog in itself.
Yeah...this concrete step was needed.
2 weekends ago: by 8 PM we were getting dressed to go out for an awesome night of dinner first and then dancing into the wee hours of the night.
Last weekend at 7 PM I was scrap-booking and spending time with Henry on the couch after his bath...still in my pj's. And he was just coming inside from mowing and weed eating our lawn.
Yes, we are home bodies. We love spending time at our home that we work so much for. Each week flies by and we don't feel like we do much more than get dressed and sleep in our home. So weekends at home are wonderful to us.
But a weekend getaway is wonderful for a married couple of five years. The dreaded packing and getting on the road is always the hardest part. But once we are, it's always worth it. To actually talk. To sit down together and relax without feeling like we could/should be doing something productive. It's just nice.
I'm not sure why I wanted to share. I guess I just think that it's good to not avoid sharing the real...even if it's just a snippet of the real. The contrast between "at home real" and "destination fun."
