Lately, if I happen to get onto Henry for barking in the house, or pawing (scratching) at my legs because he wants me to pick him up - there's a little voice that scolds me with, "Hey! That's my Bubba! Leave my Bubba alone!"
She pays attention and she's very protective of her Bubba. Even if they are the best of friends one minute and rivals the next.
Lately, if we have company over, he wants to be all up in what's going on - pawing at my lap until I pick him up and he makes himself comfortable while we visit with our company. He used to run off to sleep in the closet, but now, he wants to be a part of things.
Lately - as of this past summer - he no longer wants to climb the stairs to get on our bed. He still wants up on our bed, but he prefers to scratch at the side until we get out of bed and pick him up.
Lately - we have slacked on his walks. Honestly - big time (insert sad/sigh/disappointed face). Something I truly hope to change when the time change happens in the spring.
But lately, he has been such a sweet-spirited bubba to his sister. Allowing her to hug on him, and even do this when the ball dropped on NYE (shocked face!) (Also sidenote - yes, she stayed up past midnight - this girl of ours is a night owl like her mama.)
They play more - in that he humors her by letting her cover him with blankets; she puts his leash on him and walks him around the house; and they occasionally even play chase in the yard. They are thick as thieves when she wants to go outside and play - her best trick when wanting to play outside? Letting Henry out of the gate - then they both take off running into the back yard.
It's almost like their kiss at midnight officially signified that this year is their year.
The year when their relationship begins for real.
It completely makes the first few months of being heartbroken that he was jealous of her - oh.so.worth.the.wait.
Almost like it's sweeter now than it would have been in the beginning of their story.
I realize that he's no longer just my bubba-tups/butterbean/henny-bean/Henny/Bubba/Henry (and every other nickname she and I call him!).
He is her's too. And I love that.
