We've been trying to improve/change Ellis' bedtime routine for the past couple of weeks. Since we took the railing down from her crib, and a now in her own twin bed, I decided to try something new. Less stimulation with television (Daniel Tiger), and more quiet and calming time when we both lay down in her bed to say prayers, and sing a few songs. Truth be told, it's harder on me than it is for her. I enjoyed our snuggle time watching t.v. in our bed before she we went to her room to "rock-a-baby," as we call it. I enjoyed it a lot.
As a Christmas gift, Ellis received Jesus Calling Bible Storybook by Sarah Young, from my thoughtful cousin, Leslie.
We try to read a story each night - sometimes we read two or three if she seems truly interested! The illustrations are beautiful, and each story is no longer than two pages - perfect for toddler attention span and mamas who are sleepy. I too, am really enjoying the stories. It's like a refresher for all the characters I have heard about before, but couldn't quite remember their story. From Noah and the ark, to Samson and Delilah - they are really written wonderfully for children. Each story ends with a scripture and devotional that speaks from God's point of view. I like to end each devotional with, "Love, God." I know in future days, it will be a great time to open up a conversation about God's love for His people.
This book has blessed us so much in the past couple of weeks - especially with the new bedtime routine and transition into her big girl bed. And I know it will continue to bless us both in the years to come.
I am so grateful to my sweet and thoughtful cousin Leslie, and definitely recommend this book for mama's and their kiddos.
