"Once in a while, when it's good
It'll feel like it should
When you're all still around
And you're still safe and sound
And you don't miss a thing
Till you cry when you're driving away in the dark"
Lyrics from John Mayer's Stop This Train.
I cannot help but sing this song to myself every time I find myself editing a family photo.
This Christmas, I was blessed with the opportunity to take a family photo with almost all of my family.
We almost always get-together within the holidays at some point, yes. Taking the time, however, to set up the camera, tripod, group, and get everyone to cooperate is nothing short of magic when it happens.
And we (I) am always so happy for the documentation of the memory after the fact.
I immediately begin singing this part of one of my favorite John Mayer songs when I open them up and look at them on my computer. And if I am being completely honest, I play the song on repeat a couple times too - you know, just to get the whole "feeling" of it - cause I'm weird like that.
My heart begins to feel heavy - in a bittersweet way - when I hear the line, "...When you're all still around And you're still safe and sound..."
And ever.so.grateful. for my family. We are blessed to be with one another for another year.
That enormity is not lost on my heart.
God has blessed us yet another year.
So as much as I would like to stop time and keep everyone always together, I realize that I cannot. With photography, though, I can at least document that moment.
That one time.
When it feel's like it should.
For that reason, I will always LOVE this song by John Mayer.
And speaking of songs, I have had a few floating around in my head on repeat lately.
James Bay - Let it Go
Bombay Bicycle Club - Always Like This
Adele - Remedy - (duh, am I right?!)
Justin Bieber - Love Yourself
YEP, putting this one out there - judge me accordingly (smirk).
Along with , Sorry, and What Do You Mean.
I Can't stop. I Won't stop!!
And finally, and oldie my sister shared with me a few months ago and every time I think to listen to it, it makes me tear up.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Growing Up Featuring Ed Sheeran
Any favorites of your own right now?!
I love music. Always have.
My friends love music too.
No particular genre/style/etc...
Just good music that makes me (us) feel/think/laugh/dance.
Happy twenty-sixteen, y'all!!!
