One week ago today, Adam and I woke up sore and achy all over. But, believe it or not, we were ecstatic about it. It was well worth the aches and pains and extra few minutes it took to get out of bed.
Last weekend, we endured sixteen hours of training to become certified in Les Mills Body Combat. You might remember, I was once a certified instructor of Body Combat. But I stopped teaching in August of 2011. And then earlier this month, I found out that I had to go back to training to earn my certification back in order to start instructing classes again...
gah. What?! At four months pregnant. I wondered if it was worth it. Should I/could I possibly make it though the physical demands of training for my certification? Could the timing be any worse?! I immediately questioned my physical fitness...
But before I could over think it too much, I signed myself up. I got home that afternoon and told Adam the news and jokingly asked him if he wanted to go too, and he said, "sure, why not?!" So we signed him up. I knew with him by my side, I would be fine and would make it through the exhausting hours at four months pregnant.
The weekend was exhausting. Both mentally and physically draining. We practiced, and practiced some more. We were joined by a group of awesome women who all loved the class and had their own reasons for going to training and a kick-butt trainer named Lisa. We made friends with this group of people. A group of people that we might not have gotten to know if it were not for this training - if not for our mutual love for Body Combat. We cheered each other on, encouraged, supported, and eventually all made it to Sunday at 4:30 - together.
Adam and I both made it out with a Pass - which is the ultimate goal of the weekend, but we came home on Sunday with SO MUCH MORE than just a pass.
We came home with enthusiasm for being Body Combat instructors. We came home closer. It is something so cool and a bit indescribable to go through something so physically and mentally demanding with your spouse. I believe it brought us closer together. It may not be how we will always choose to spend our "weekend get-a-ways" with each other, but I am so glad we spent this one this way.
Most of all, we came home with a renewed love for this fitness class, called Body Combat. We've always loved this class, but going through the training (even at four months pregnant!) was a wonderful refresher and reminder of why we love it. The discipline. The technique. The overall bottom line of wanting a healthier, fitter planet. Wanting to be physically fit and enjoy life at the same time. We don't want to be fitness rock-stars, we just love the way this class makes us look and feel, and ultimately we want to share it with others. It's like having a favorite song, and wanting the people you know to hear it and love it too.
And that's what it was all about. My anxieties and fears of being physically fit enough for this turned out to be just that: fear. And when it came down to it, I looked that fear in the eyes, and believed that I am strong. My baby is and will be strong. And he or she will know that having goals and facing fears are important - something I am embracing and getting to know so much more these days.
The first day we walked into training, I glanced over my shoulder and saw this baby t-shirt in the gym lobby, and I took it as a sign.
I breathed a sigh of relief, squeezed Adam's hand and knew...everything was going to be just fine.
And it was and will be.
If you have never tried a Body Combat class, I encourage you do to so - you can look for one in your area here. If you live in my area, I would like to invite you to join Adam, my sister, and I for a gym launch of Les Mills Body Combat 53 (and other fitness classes like, Les Mills Body Pump, Ripped, Zumba and Yoga/Pilates) at Brownwood Fitness Center on October 1st and 2nd. If you are interested, email or Facebook message me, and I will hook you up with more details and a free pass for you and a friend!
Thanks for dropping by :)
