Do you ever just stand back with your fists full of hair and wonder, "how did this happen?!" That's where I was last night. Pulling hair out. Frustrated. Confused on how I let myself be a pack rat. It was melt down city. As you can see, the new shelf is in. And all of the bookcase elements are OUT - on the floor, on the table, on the new shelf. EVERYWHERE. It was like I was drowning in CRAP. Some of it is just plain junk. OKAY... a lot of it is junk. Stuff I will never have any use for. Like what the heck am I gonna do with a stack of 12X12 corrugated cardboard? And will I ever use the air dry clay that I have been holding on to for years?!?! If this were kitchen junk, or even decorations from a few years ago, it would easily be chunked out. No questions about it. But this is my art supplies!!! (whine, whine).
My baskets are on their way, and I figured I could get a head start with cleaning and sorting out. Ugh. I need serious HGTV help. What are your theories for getting rid of craft stuff? Does the same rule of thumb for clothing (if you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it) work for craft supplies? I mean, are foam stamps still in? I loved those things back in the day, but have not used them AT ALL for the past year or so? Keep or give away?
this time, it's a decorating question about my scrap space. After seeing this photo - of a so called (by my standards) cleaned space, I realized my space is SO not clean nor is it organized in any form or fashion. I mean, those plastic drawers are SO 2000's (wink, wink)!
So I bought this shelving unit last Sunday I am getting rid of the book case in hopes that this more OPEN view of my stuff will help me to organize better and not just shove things in the case (as if they were hidden). I am also doing away with the said plastic drawers and investing in some new baskets to store my stuff. Therein lies my question:
Should I buy the cute matchy-matchy baskets that I found here - for a reasonable price in pink, brown and orange to match the colors in the room
OR buy the more "grown up" ones that could possibly be used at a later date, should I decide to change the colors of my space.
Oh, the decisions. What do you think? Colorful, or grown up? I know, the fact that I can't decide says a lot about my personality, huh?! :0) Any suggestions welcome!
No it's not a new cereal - though that does sound kinda good! It's the game!
Say it with me: B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
We played it at the Moore's Christmas celebration during the holidays. We found it at Hastings on Saturday night and could not wait to wake up and play on Sunday morning. It's like Scrabble without the pesky rules. Basically, you get so many letters, and you have to build your own crossword puzzle out of them until you use all of your letters. The more people playing, the faster the game goes. I won the first game - WOOT WOOT! Adam won the second. and we started another game last night that is to be continued tonight.
The rule book says that when you win, you have to say "bananas." But we (I) made up our (my) own rule that you have to yell "BANANAS! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!" ala Gwen Stephani, of course. Adam just rolls his eyes.
Last year, Adam and I made eight goals for us as a couple - ya know - 08=8 goals; 09=9 goals.... This year, I decided to make nine goals of my own along with ours. I am so much better at setting goals if I have a list of them. For me, it makes it concrete to have something to look back on and refer to. And of course, what better way to "write it down" for a scrapbooker, than to just scrapbook it?! The whole garden seed is here. The goals read:
Organize my closet and scrap room often. Throw things out often. Live less clutter-y.
take more photos of our life. document more. keep my camera handy. smile!
Cook more. A lot more. Eat out a lot less. Even if it includes a trip to the store first.
Take the time and patience to let Adam teach me how to do the bills. LEARN how.
Listen to my body. and my trainer.
Read more books. Improve the speed that i read.
Be a better teacher. More effort and dedication.
Date my husband more. Make the effort to have fun - just the 2 of us.
Make a real effort to go to church more often. Get up! Go.
Be sure to look here for more AWESOME and inspiring New Years goals layouts.
Sunny side up note: I have a half day of work today, and the whole day off tomorrow! Our school district takes the Stock Show (livestock) seriously. I just like the day and 1/2 off! :0)
My mood. It's much better today. Even though I was running late this morning as I forgot to put gas in my car last night and had to stop this morning - in the cold. And even though I may have been speeding a bit (due to my lateness) and got pulled over. OOPS. But I did not get a ticket. Luckily he understood my plea of being a late teacher on her way to work.
So yeah, my mood is better today even despite those things. :0)
You know what else is making a comeback?
THE SCRUNCI!!!! HAAAAA! Am I really posting this picture of myself??? I must be in a good mood. In all actuality, the scrunci never left my hair dressing ways. I use them to do my hair everyday. Last Saturday the thought of it made me giggle, so I had to take a pic. Please don't judge me or think different of me. :0)
Woke up this morning in a blah mood. Wish I felt like this Of course, I usually am in a good mood when I am driving home in the afternoon.
Maybe it's the cold temps, cause I hate being cold all day. Maybe it's lack of sleep - I sure did get used to 8-9 hours during the holiday break. Or maybe cause it's only Tuesday and I just would rather be at home in my warm robe creating something. who knows. I did, however, start NEW MOON yesterday. Yes, I'm a lot late to the Twilight party. I resisted before because I am SO not into sci-fi vampires and what not. My theory is that if it can't happen in real life, it's not for me. I was sooo wrong. I fell in love with it.
Hopes for today: that it will be just as good. that today will be over soon. that this week will get better. that i get over my blah mood.
That's what we call our home. Thank you all so much for all the GREAT suggestions on the fire place. At this time, I am leaning toward the black with white mantle - OR still just the all white. I will be SURE to post pictures of it when it's done! And instead of hating those plug in's above the mantle, I will put them to use. I am now on the hunt for some cute lamps. Thank you so much for all the suggestions!
This morning I posted a blog on the Garden Girl blog. It's a share your space blog. I posted several photos of my scrap room - which really made me come to terms with the fact that i am in dyer need of re-organizing that room, too.
The thing is, is that the room is right next to our bedroom, and would make a perfect nursery someday(don't get any ideas!!!), so should I really overhaul it all now, or just wait until that time comes??? I guess either way, you could say that our whole house is full of "works in progress." But it's okay cause we love it anyway.
The fire place is stained. It's been that way since we bought the house. I guess the previous owner used the fire place without opening the shoot (er whatever it's called that lets the smoke out). so it's stained. When we first moved in, I tried to clean it. Scrub it, really. Hard. Clorox, Comet, you name it, I tried it. So it's stained. But should I paint it? Cause once it's painted, you can't really turn back, right? I am thinking IF I did, it would be white. Just white. What would you do? Embrace the stain or paint? Any answers would be appreciated... even if you said, "what the hell is going on with your decorating skills??? girl you need help!!!" I'd appreciate it and consider it as a start!
maybe it's cause she's a teacher, and maybe it's cause she's really pretty, but i wish he'd have given her a chance. I mean, really???? did her teeth and myspace stalker-talk not freak him out enough???
I had NO intentions of getting into this season...but it was on when I came out of the shower, and I could.not.stop.watching. ugh.
