ColorFUL.

I am feeling colorful today.  A friend of mine,Kelly, posted today that she is also feeling a bit colorful today.  Me too. 

This morning I was yellow.  Kinda mellow.  During my art for elementary class, I was red.  Red is my happy color.  I was actually picked first to be in a group... they thought I was an "expert at art" so they wanted me in their group.  Sounds kinda childish as I write it, that I was so happy to be "chosen first."  But really, it still does have that same exciting effect as it did when I was in grade school. 

This evening, I was feeling blue cause I have so much to do.  ANd don't wanna do it.  School work, nonetheless.   

And now I am feeling yellow again.  Mellowing out from the day.  Relaxing in my jammies.  Tomorrow is Thurs. and that means a day closer to the weekend.  Yeah.

Anyhow, this is reminding me of that M&M commercial with Megan Mullally singing about the colors.  And then she gets to the orange, and nothing rhymes with orange so she continues..."Chocolate is better in color."

I had a colorful day. And when I look at it terms of color, it seems that much better!  Expressive and emotive.  Just like chocolate, life is better in color!

I had orignally planned to write about another topic tonight.  But after just reading another blog, I don't feel the need.  The blog belonged to Tara.  I have so enjoyed reading her blogs.  She has a way with words.  And though she may not know who this girl named "RebeccaLeighann"  is, and I have never met or spoken to her, I feel deeply moved by her blogs.  Humorous or deep, they are just THAT good.

Her entry about Sarah's song is just beautiful.  Brought me to tears, in fact.  It reminded me how powerful music is.  How much I love music.  All genres.  How one song can speak volumes.  You can relate to it.  Feel it even.  I think we all keep those songs close to our hearts.  I for one, have several that come to mind immediately.  And have also had one or two that can bring me to tears before the first chorus.  I did a circle journal entry once that focused on one particular song.  Daughters by John Mayer.  That for me, is a song that speaks volumes.  The words are just so true to form for me.  My childhood, my parents, my struggles with love that I have faced in the past - and still struggle with today.  No, my childhood was not ugly nor was it even bad.  There were just things that I wish had been different.  So with that being said, Daughters is a song that catches my heart and mind...everytime I listen to it.  Ah yes, music is powerful.  Thank you, Tara, for the reminder.

Painted Toenails...

This past weekend was Great - with a capital G.  Most of our family made it in, and Mama & Papa's house was packed.  Love it that way...when the house feels too small (cause it really is), with the noise of children running and playing, and the ever so wonderful smell of Mama constantly in the kitchen feeding anyone and everyone who will eat.  Yes, it was a Great Easter weekend.  Rachel, Leslie & I had so much fun stuffing eggs and hiding them in the backyard.   But that wasn't the best part.  The best part came when Ryan and Gabby were let loose to hunt the eggs.  Those kids, my cousins, are such a blast!  They cleaned up...much to their parents dismay of too much chocolate and candy.  Ryan DID originally have a normal easter bucket, but once that was full, he had to grab a BIGGER bucket.  As you can see, he was in pure bliss (very zealous to pose for the camera). Finally, after the hunt was over, all us grandkids gathered around the tripod for a group photo.  I think it turned out well considering we had 2 kids with extreme sugar-rush. 

And of course, Easter would not have been complete without those infamous Peeps chicks!  I don't like them -- at all, one bite, and I am quickly reminded why.  But they do look oh-so appealing. So yes, even the Peeps had a photo shoot.  I know, I'm a dork.

And today, I was blessed with another good day off.  No school, no work.  Me time to do as I pleased.  So I scrapbooked (of course), uploaded pictures, did some over-due laundry, and ah, my point of this entry --- I painted my toenails.  A very proud moment for my sister who is always hounding me about taking care of my feet! 

My "shout-out" for today belongs to you, Sis!  Thanks for reminding me that sandle & open-toe season IS beginning, and my toes needed help. 

Me & Billy

Billy Joel that is.  He and I stayed up waaayyyy late last night scrapbooking.  Okay, well, I stayed up late scrapbooking, and he sang to me over the CD player!  Hee!  The other day, I was prompted to pull out Adam's Billy Joel greatest hits after my mom told me that she saw on t.v. that he had just checked back into rehab.  Poor Billy Joel...but I still love his music.  Not that I actually believe Mom that he IS in rehab...she can be WAY off on pop culture sometimes.  But either way, as soon as she said his name, I started humming the song " For the Longest Time."  That song is the greatest.   As well as "Uptown Girl."  Which happens to be the song before "the longest time" on the CD.  Bonus.  I remember listening to those songs in my babysitter's suburban.  Yes, I was very young, but I still remember.  Good memories of feel good music!  So good that it kept me up till 2 last night - scrappin' away. 

On another note,

Adam said to me last night: "You know (in his cute trying-to-be-stern-voice), you still have yet to mention my name in your blog-thing."  And I told him that I planned too! I really did...I just hadn't gotten to that yet.  So today, my shout out belongs to my Sweetheart, Adam. My Wormus!  And because his mug is already at the top of this page, I will post the oh-so-wonderful jewlery box that he made me for Valentine's Day!   I am totally in love with it -- if it's possible to be in love with an object!  The fact that he made it with his own two hands and it's a work of art!  Plus, he let me pick out the drawer pulls myself.  He is so good with woodwork.  It's in his genes.  His family blood.  I love that.  And I love you, Wormus. 

I almost forgot

Yesterday, I sent a "shout-out" to one of my girlfriends cause it was her b-day!  So thinking that I may start sending a "shout-out" to someone everyday....

Today is to my friend Kim Kesti!  She just started her own blog and it's FAB!  She is ultra-creative in the scrapbooking area, and I am so glad to call her my friend!  We also both design for the same online scrap store: Scrapsupply.com 

So here's to you Kim for starting your blog...which, by the way, I will "stalk" everyday!  Hehe! 

Admitted Procrastinator

My name is Rebecca Cantu, and I am an admitted procrastinator.  Why oh why do I put things off till the last minute.  I do it all the time - telling myself that I will not ever put something off again.  Yet, I do it again and again. 

Today my procrastination was in the form of a speech.  I have known about this speech for several weeks.  A speech over Morals.  I have good morals, I just don't have good self-disipline when it comes to getting work done, then play.  I think that I enjoy the rush that it gives me to know that I can pull it off.  Put it off till the last minute, and then pull something outta my you-know-where, when the time arises.  Like today.  I woke up this morning knowing that I had to write this speech.  So I made arrangements to my schedule, so that I would have ample time before class to prepare.

And now that I am done writing the speech, I have an overwhelming sense of accomplishment...I finished 2 hours early!  No, I don't have it memorized, but still, I can wing it, huh?!  See, how I analyze it...how I talk myself into it?!  It's sooo easy for me to do.

I wonder if this it will ever catch up with me.  If I will ever pay REAL consequences to being a procrastinator.  I wonder if I can ever change my lax style.  I want to.  On the rare occasion, I will do something ahead of time...and it feels good.  But somehow, not good enough for me to do it continuously.  Ugh...why? 

I think it is part of my laid-back attitude.  My professor, which happens to be the one who I am giving the speech for tonight, always talks about his time in the military that he spent in Hawaii.  He talks about how in Hawaii, they have a "manana-attitude."  No hurry, no worry.  I think I should live in Hawaii...I think I would fit in well there!  Haha.   

Really, I know what it is.  It has never really caught up to me.  I have never had to pay a real price for putting things off.  And the only things that I put off are things that I "really don't wanna do."  That's the core of it, I think.  Oh, but that brings out more scary's that I don't wanna admit to today...stuff like accepting responsiblity as an adult, growning up...stuff like that.  No, today I will focus on procrastination...I can only bear one personal flaw at a time.  :0) 

I guess we'll see how the speech goes tonight at 6:30.  Wish me luck...I'll need it.

Just one of those days...

When you wake up in the morning and can't find anything to wear.

When you burn your arm with the curling iron---OUCH!

When you lock your keys in the car at school, and spend the entire lunch hour retrieving them out...not to mention feeling guilty for making someone else (my sis, in this case) miss her lunch hour too, to drive me around to find my spare.

When you spend 3 hours weaving with yarn during lab (Art for Elementary Teachers--which by the way, I vow to never make my school kids feel like they are working in a sweat shop), and your shoulders and neck are SOOOOO tense.

When you get home from lab, and get in an arguement with your fiance---and KNOW it was your fault cause you walked in the door with an attitude.

When you even your work-out is HARD.

When you feel guilty about complaining about your day cause YOU know many people are going through much much worse...and my worst day is better than their best.

Well that was my day today.  I haven't had one in a while.  I hate complaining!  Makes me feel like a whiny kid.  So here are some good things that also happened today, that NOW, after the day is almost over, I can see.

1.  Because I could not find anything to wear, I put together a *new* outfit with old clothes...and got 2 compliments on it, mind you!  Okay, one was from my sister and she said I looked "Springy"....I think that was compliment!

2.  I got to know a girl in my class today.  We had a nice conversation while waiting for my sis to bring me my spare key.

3.  I made it though my run.  And it's such a thrill when it's over, to know that your made it through a "hard" work-out.

4.  I am just about to have dinner at Mama & Papa's (my grandparents).  And that is sooooo good!  We are blessed to be able to spend our Wednesday nights with them.  Good conversation over really really good food.  I can't wait!

Okay enough about me...Today also happened to be my friend, Kelly's,  23rd Birthday!!!  So I wanna send a "shout-out" to her. 

Kelly: I hope you had the most wonderfullest birthday!  You deserve your 3 days off...enjoy em'.  And your card/spiral is in the mail!

Purged

I'll admit it.  It was kinda hard at first.  The idea of giving away the stuff that I value so much.  Paper. 

Whew!  I just purged LOTS of scrapbook paper!  Pattern papers, cardstock, all colors, all patterns...I gave them away!!! 

It feels good.  To free myself of things I will never use.  To give someone lots of new stuff to start her own collection of scraps.  To get someone else started with the obsession of owning paper.  And lots of it!   

I have been cleaning out my paper for the past couple weeks.  I cleaned out and then was just sitting there in a spare box...waiting to be given to the perfect owner.  Someone who will appreciate the colors and patterns!   Ha-ha! 

My opportunity came along today in the form of a step-cousin.  She just got married last summer and hopes to start scrapping her wedding and honeymoon pictures soon.  My aunt Sherrie (her mom), let me know that she would be in town today and was interested in coming over to see my scrap space.  I said sure!  The chance to get to talk scrapbooking with someone else in person....heck yeah! 

She came today, and left with lots of paper!  I was here today, and am left feeling really good!  I am not quite sure if it's cause I DID get to talk scrapbooking with someone in person, or cause I feel like maybe I inspired her a little.  And if all it takes is giving away paper to inspire someone....I will "purge" more often :0)

Numb.

I went to the dentist this morning.  The whole right side of my face is numb and feels really weird.  But there are 2 good things that have come from my visit.

1.) It's helping me to not eat-out-of-boredom today.

2.) I am officially Cavity-FREE!!!  And that is a good thing.

Why, you ask?

Why?  Hmmm....

•Maybe cause all the other blogs I have seen are really cool Ali Edwards (by far, my hugest inspiration).

• Maybe cause I want to keep an online journal - I AM online a lot these days. 

•Maybe cause I got a new digi rebel for Christmas and want to upload cool photos so family can see. 

•Maybe cause I am a wannabe :0)  --- all the "cool" people have one!!!!  Ha. 

•Maybe cause I just keep asking myself, "Why Not?"

Either way, this is my first post to my blog.  I hope to add more things to it, make it feel more like me.  But for now, this is it.  My first post on my first blog ever.  I like it, I think that I am gonna be spending more time here than I need too.
